History
Hanteillan estate is mentioned in pope Alexanders III Bull among the properties of Vertheuil Abbey, in 1179.
 |
Nowadays, one of the vineyards of the chateau is still called Vatican. Until twenty years ago, this vineyard used to produce a wine sold under the name Tour du Vatican.

During the XVII Century, HANTEILLAN belongs to a wealthy bourgeois who buys titles for his children. Later, they ally to the Bordeaux and the Périgord nobilities. During the French Revolution, their heirs perished on the scaffold.
From 1809 onwards, the property passes into feminine hands. It is bought by Mrs. Antoinette Rose de Lapeyrière, who has the masters house, the wine storehouse, and the vathouse built. She also enlarges the estate; her daughter then her daughter-in-law, married to a wine merchant, continue her work.
In 1852, Mr. Lefort, ship-broker whose brother is a doctor in Pauillac, buys Hanteillan and the neighboring vineyard of Coutelin Merville. He then makes considerable investments in both properties that he operates all in one piece.
In 1903, both properties are purchased by a family hailing from Corrèze who keeps them until 1972, when Hanteillan is bought by the actual owners. They are cattle breeders from the Limousin and have a genuine passion for wine.
